Easter Car Ramming in Nigeria. Children Dead, Suspects Beaten to Death.
Gombe, Nigeria – An Easter Parade on Sunday ended in tragedy when a man who was angry with children blocking the road rammed his car into the mix. Eleven were killed, at least 8 of them children. At least thirty more were injured, according to Breitbart.
“Shuaibu Muazu, chief medical director of Gombe Specialist Hospital, confirmed on Monday that 11 victims were brought in dead. The injured are treated at the same facility and two other hospitals within the state. ” Xinhua
Adamu Abdullahi, a member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) was identified as the driver of the vehicle. After a heated exchange with those in the parade, he turned around, turned off his lights, and rammed into them from behind, killing eight of the children. Then he attempted to flee the scene.
As he tried to flee, survivors of the ramming chased him down and beat both he and his passenger to death.
“The driver of the car had a heated argument with the children before they made way for him to pass, only for him, in a fit of rage, to turn and drive into them. He did it on purpose.”
Isaac Kwadang, head of the Boys Brigade in Gombe to GulfNews.
The children were part of an interdenominational Christian group known as the Boys Brigade, which contains boys between the ages of six and 22. Nigeria often has processions and parades during religious festivals in which the roads are blocked, which GulfNews stated causes “chaos.” Apparently chaos and anger go together in Nigeria.
Police referred to the incident as an “unfortunate motor accident.” Not really. Killing eight children in a fit of rage is a bit more than an “unfortunate motor accident.” An investigation into the incident has begun.
Conflicting reports say either 11 or 10 people were killed.
