Denmark Criminalizes Free Speech

Last week, a Facebook post by a Danish citizen from 2013 came before a Danish District Court, which ruled that it violated Denmark’s Criminal Code. And because they only fined him a small amount (about $240) he can’t appeal the decision because appeals require special permission. What was his heinous offense?

Expressing his opinion

The defendant wrote the following in response to a debate on the radical Islamist organization Hizb-ut-Tahrir, which according to the Gatestone Institute works towards the establishment of a Caliphate (just like ISIS). The name of the defendant was not released.

“The ideology of Islam is as loathsome, disgusting, oppressive and as misanthropic as Nazism. The massive immigration of Islamists into Denmark is the most devastating thing to happen to Danish society in recent history.”

Denmark has a criminal code, 266b, which defines a violation as “publicly to threaten, insult or demean a group of persons because of their race, skin color, national or ethnic origin, faith or sexual orientation.”

Danish foolishness

Danes have allowed Muslims to say anything they want without any action, but in this case they have put the screws to someone who was simply expressing an opinion.

In 2014, a Danish Imam, Mohamed Al Khaled Samha, in Odense,  stated that Jews were descendants of “apes and pigs” and incited a packed mosque to kill them. When someone reported them to the police for violating the Danish law, no charges were ever filed.

The truth is no longer accepted

The court ruled in part,

“…the statements that the defendant has made should be seen in the societal and historical context of the fall of 2013, and in this context the court sees the statements about ‘the ideology of Islam’ as pertaining to Islam generally and not only the extreme part of Islam. In this regard, the court has furthermore emphasized that the quoted statements were written on 29 November 2013 at 17.13 and that at 17.27 on the same day — as pointed out by the defense — the defendant wrote in the same [Facebook] thread that “Islam wishes to abuse democracy in order to get rid of democracy.”

In essence, pointing out the evils of Islam is now a crime in Denmark.

Ramifications – handing Muslims exactly what they wanted

The ramifications of this ruling – at least for Denmark- are to give the Muslims something to crow about. The 57 member Organization of Islamic Cooperation has long sought to establish blasphemy laws – they have been seeking such laws to quell free speech, in specific, about Islam. They want no one to say ANYTHING bad about their ideology or religion.

Anything they don’t like is referred to as “Islamophobia” – and is considered slander … under Sharia it is punishable by death. Criticizing their “prophet” can be fatal. Denmark has effectively done exactly what Muslims have been seeking with this ruling.
