Dems Block Kate’s Law, Leave Sanctuary Cities for Illegals Intact

Fox News reported that the Democrats in the Republican-controlled Senate effectively blocked what is known as “Kate’s Law,” as well as a bill to de-fund Sanctuary Cities. They managed to keep the bills from reaching the 60 votes needed to begin debate on the law.

Senate Democrats effectively blocked a bill that would have stopped sanctuary cities, and provided stiffer punishment for illegals who are repeat offenders

Kathryn “Kate” Steinle was shot and killed in July of 2015 by Francisco Sanchez, an illegal who had been deported 5 times previously.  We reported the incident here.

“For too long we have sat by while sanctuary jurisdictions release dangerous criminals into the community to harm our citizens. It’s time we put an end to it. It’s time we work toward protecting our communities, rather than continuing to put them in danger.” Sen Charles Grassley

Kate’s Law and the Stop Dangerous  Sanctuary Cities Act

The Republicans  wanted to pull funding from Sanctuary Cities. They tried and failed last year as well. There are over 200 cities across the nation that ban police from cooperating with Federal authorities who give paperwork to  detain illegals so they can be deported.

Before Sanchez killed Kate, he was released by San Francisco under one of those situations – ICE presented a detainer to the San Francisco Police, and it was ignored. The SFPD then released him back out on the street to kill.

Kate’s Law also amended current immigration law to provide mandatory minimum penalties for criminal violators who have been previously deported.

Democrat opposition

Dems like Harry Reid and Obama strongly opposed the legislation, saying that it played into Trump’s “demonization” of Latinos.

“The bill fails to offer the comprehensive reforms needed to fix the Nation’s broken immigration laws and would impose severe and unprecedented mandatory minimum sentences that would undermine the discretion of federal judges to make sure the punishment fits the crime in each case.” Obama

Why do they think that having mandatory minimums for those who have already been deported and commit crimes is “harsh?” Why do they think Sanctuary Cities are good? Because they do not care about America – only their soapy version of the country that is being run to ruin by liberals.
