Defense Sec Mattis: Syria Still Has Chemical Weapons

 In Foreign, Military

Military.com reported that Defense Secretary Mattis met with Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman in Israel on Friday, and stated without a doubt that Syria still has chemical weapons.

“There can be no doubt in the international community’s mind that Syria has retained chemical weapons in violation of its agreement and its statement that it had removed them all. I can say authoritatively they have retained some, it’s a violation of the United Nations Security Council resolutions and it’s going to have to be taken up diplomatically and they would be ill advised to try to use any again, we made that very clear with our strike.” SecDef James Mattis

Mattis is not “playin”and neither is Trump

Mattis said that Syria has dispersed its remaining Aircraft recently over concerns of another US attack. The US air strike was said to have demolished about 20% of Syrian Air Force planes.

The Israeli Defense Minister said that they had information that Syria still maintains up to 3 tons of chemical weapons in its arsenal. Only the “declared” chemical weapons were actually destroyed in the 2013 agreement brokered by Russia and ‘completed’ in 2017.

So as the world shouted “yay no more chemical weapons” this January, the celebration was obviously premature.

Lieberman stated that they had 100% information that Assad was the culprit in the attack.

Sarin or “a similar substance”

There was “incontrovertible evidence” that the attack on Khan Sheikhoun in Syria was Sarin gas “or a similar substance,” according to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Samples from 10 of the victims were sent to 4 different laboratories: 3 samples from people who died and 7 samples from survivors.

Uncle Sam’s reached out to a Special Forces veteran who advised us that he did not believe it was Sarin used in the attack. He stated it was more likely Chlorine gas. But the international watchdog  OPCW says definitively that it was Sarin or something similar. The two gases have significantly different chemical signatures.

When we asked why, he said if you look at the videos, the people helping the victims were doing so barehanded and were wearing sandals, leaving their extremities exposed. He told us that such a situation would likely have been fatal for those who responded to help the victims if the weapon used was Sarin.

Testing is continuing on the international front.

The issue of what gas was used comes down to who used it. General Mattis says without a doubt it was Assad.
