Authorities in Livingston Parish say he first killed Billy Ernest, 43, his son Tanner, 17, and daughter Summer, 20. Reports say he had recently begun dating Summer.
“My family met him last weekend at a birthday party and didn’t get good vibes from him. My mom is a good judge of character and she just thought he was not good.” Crystal DeYoung, Billy Ernest’s sister to USA Today.
The two youngest members of the Ernest family ran to a neighbor’s home and told her that their father, sister, and brother were dead. She called 911. One of the children was 7 and the other age 1. They were unharmed.
After shooting the three Ernest family members, he left the scene and went to a trailer in Gonzales, in Ascension Parish, and shot both of his parents, Elizabeth and Keith Theriot, both 51. They were found by police still alive, but after the father identified Dakota as the suspect, they both died at the hospital in Baton Rouge, according to a CBS affiliate. Theriot lived with his parents for a time, but was asked to leave and not return.
“The father was gravely injured at the time we found him and has since passed away. But before he died, authorities were able to get a dying declaration from him, and only enough information to let us know that it was his son that committed this act.” Ascension Parish Sheriff Bobby Webre
Theriot had a misdemeanor criminal record in other Parishes.
