Communists Burn Flag, Attack Secret Service, USMC Veteran Snags Flag from Flames

 In Politics, Veterans

Things got a little crazy in front of the White House on July 4th during Trump’s ‘Salute to America’ when black shirted ‘Revolutionary Communists’ burned two American flags. They tossed a burning flag on a Secret Service Agent, causing another agent to use a fire extinguisher to put it out. Jerome, a USMC veteran, grabbed one of the burning flags right out of the flames and confronted the communists…who linked arms as a “human shield” to prevent being accosted.

The Hill reported,

The Secret Service told The Hill that one person was arrested for felony assault on a police officer and for malicious burning, and the other was arrested for obstructing a police investigation and resisting arrest. One person was transported to a hospital for minor injuries, and two Secret Service officers were also transported to a local hospital for treatment.

USA Today reported that a group calling themselves the Revolutionary Communist Party burned the flag and posted video showing protesters pushing and shoving each other after the flames died down.

Washington Examiner reporter Steven Nelson shared footage of the burning on Twitter and reported that a veteran grabbed the flag while it was still on fire.

And if you’re wondering, yes, the veteran was one of ours. Jerome, a USMC veteran, originally came to DC from Florida to talk about VA reform and Veterans healthcare. But he says it was a “bonus” when Rick Ferran told him about the military parade, the Trump speech, and the celebration. Rick also warned him about the communists burning the flag.

Jerome said he was near the White House and didn’t see anything like that at first. But then he saw the flames and he knew what was happening. Without thinking, he ran to the spot and snatched the flag (while it was still burning) which caused minor burns on his fingers.

“I’d do it again. I wanted to get my hands on that flag. I knew I didn’t dare put my hands on them because then I’d get arrested…The only thing I’d do different is maybe wear gloves next time.

I believe my sole purpose in being in DC was for that moment. I started to do it again, but the Secret Service held me back telling me ‘it’s not illegal.’ They did have my back…

I’m just a man who raised his right hand. And that oath doesn’t expire.” Jerome, USMC veteran

He is correct – that oath never expires. And we are proud of Jerome’s action to grab that flag, burning or not. We’re also thankful he wasn’t harmed.

Some of the good guys at “Salute to America”

One of the activists arrested for burning the flag was Gregory “Joey” Johnson, who won at the Supreme Court back in 1989 when he previously burned the flag. The court called it “freedom of speech.” He won a $225K settlement from Cleveland for burning the flag at the GOP convention in 2016, according to the Washington Examiner. Here are a few other tweets from the confrontations around the White House.
