Cincinnati Bank Shooting – 4 Dead, including Suspect

At around 9:10 a.m. this morning, Cincinnati Police responded to a report of an active shooter at the loading dock/lobby of the Fifth Third Bank Center. “Fountain Square” as it’s called contains popular pastry, sandwich, and ice cream shops. Four people are dead, including the gunman, and two people – one male and one female- were wounded, one of whom is in critical condition.

Police arrived within three minutes and exchanged fire with the gunman, killing him. The situation was handled by 9:15 a.m. Police completed their search of the crime scene around 11 a.m., according to Fox19.

Authorities stated that one woman was shot around 12 times, but so far has survived. She is from Louisville, KY.

 

Fifth Third Bank issued a statement:

The shooter was identified by police as Omar Enrique Santa Perez, 29. According to authorities, he carried a 9 mm handgun with about 500 rounds of ammunition. Fortunately, the police response was swift, and he was taken out before there was more loss of life. (Note: conflicting information on the amount of ammunistion he was carrying, the latest update says around 250 rounds via NBC).

The motive at this time is unknown. Fifth Third Bank stated that Perez was not a previous or current employee. Police searched his residence in North Bend. Cincinnati.com reported,

“According to records available online, Santa previously lived in South Carolina and Florida and may have been a college student in the Cincinnati area.”
