Camp Pendleton Marine Stabbed to Death, Suspect Arrested
Camp Pendleton Marine PFC Ethan Andrew Barclay-Weberpal was stabbed during an altercation with another Marine at Camp Pendleton’s School of Infantry in California o Tuesday morning. The name of the suspect has not been released, but he is in custody. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) is investigating the death.
In a Facebook Post, PFC Weberpal’s father, Scott Weberpal of Wisconsin, acknowledged that his son was the one killed. As of this writing, the USMC had not yet issued a statement on the name.
According to the San Diego Union Tribune, Police and medical personnel responded to Area 52, Camp Pendleton’s School of Infantry at around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday morning for a report of an injured person. Further details of the altercation have not been released.
US Marines have died in training accidents, car accidents, aircraft accidents, but an out and out murder is rare.

It’s with excruciating sadness and tears in my eyes that I’m writing this – my only son, my own blood, Marine PFC Ethan Andrew Barclay-Weberpal, was killed yesterday morning at Camp Pendleton, CA. He was stabbed by another Marine. There are few details at this time as there is an ongoing investigation. Arrangements are pending and I will post an update when I know more.
