British Military Bases on High Alert After Kidnap Attempt

Britain –  Two “Middle Eastern looking” men allegedly attempted to kidnap an RAF officer on July 20, which sparked a security alert at the Marham military base. Then on Wednesday,  reports of two “suspicious-looking men” hanging around Aldershot military base prompted the base commander to tell his soldiers not to wear their uniforms in town.

The RAF member was said to be jogging near the Marham base when he was accosted by two men who attempted to drag him into a car. Reports say the men vastly underestimated the victim’s ability to fight back.

The BBC reported,

One suspect is described as of “Middle Eastern appearance”, between 20 and 30 years old, approximately 6ft (1.8m) tall, with a well-groomed beard.

The second man, who is of similar appearance, is slightly younger, about 5ft 10in (1.78m) tall and was clean-shaven with short, dark hair.

The victim was approached by two men while jogging near the base.

He wrestled one man to the ground – possibly leaving him with a black eye – before another man, armed with a knife, tried to attack him.

Over 150 calls to police reported a spotting of the suspects, but to date, none have panned out.

Daily Mail reported,

The attacker grabbed the runner’s shoulder and then his wrist and tried to drag him towards the dark-coloured people carrier ‘with a degree of force’, police said.

The airman fought back and knocked the man to the ground, but then saw a second man running towards him with the knife.

When the second suspect saw his accomplice on the floor he headed towards him and the airman was able to escape.

The running route is used regularly by base personnel and is only some 400m from its married quarters, meaning the two men could have been lying in wait for a lone victim they could abduct.

The airman, who was ‘very, very shaken’ by his ordeal, was wearing running clothes which did not show any military insignia.

He said his first assailant shouted something, but he was listening to music through earphones and did not hear what was said.

Aldershot Garrison

August 3, 2016 Aldershot Garrison

Two men loitering near the Aldershot military base prompted authorities to advise their service members not to wear their uniforms. While initial reports thought it was another kidnap attempt, that report proved unfounded..

Aldershot Garrison has been the “home” of the British Army since 1854.

Since the abduction attempt at Marham, all British bases are on high alert to even the slightest incident.

“At this stage there is nothing to suggest that a crime has been committed but we are looking into why the two men had stopped the car on this stretch of road.

No contact was made between the two men and the person reporting the incident who is a civilian member of staff who works within the military complex at Aldershot.” Spokesman for Hampshire Police
