Brevard County, Florida Homeowner Shoots Masked Intruders.

 In 2nd Amendment

Titusville, Florida – You’d think by now, home invaders would learn their lesson after so many of them have been killed by armed homeowners. But no, they haven’t. Two masked home invaders in Brevard County, Florida, were shot dead by a homeowner after they broke into his home while he and his wife were inside on Thursday afternoon.

The two men, identified as Alvin Smalls, 20, of Titusville, and Amir Lynn, 18, of Mims attempted to enter the home while both owners were inside. At least one of the suspects was wearing a mask and the other was armed.

Florida Today reported,

The shooting happened about 1 p.m. along West Court, which sits west of U.S. 1. A man and a woman were at the home at the time, the Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies were called to the area after reports of gunfire and a possible robbery involving masked men.

Deputies arrived at the scene and searched the area. Crime scene tape was used to rope off an area of roadway in the residential neighborhood. Neighbors could also be seen standing outside and watching as blue-gloved deputies searched for evidence in the street near the scene of the shooting.

Sheriff’s spokesman Tod Goodyear said one of the men who suffered a gunshot wound ran from the home, but collapsed a short distance away. The man was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The investigation is continuing. Thus far, according to police, it appears as if the homeowner acted in self-defense. but the prosecutor will determine if charges are filed.

A Neighborhood Watch was formed after another man was killed in the same area last year. This seems to be a clear case of self-defense, and another test of Florida’s homeowner self defense statutes. Although the man who created the neighborhood watch said this is the kind of thing he “wanted to prevent,” sometimes it’s not possible to prevent criminals from doing criminal things.
