Bowe “Abdullah” Bergdahl Finally Charged with Desertion and Misbehavior Before the Enemy
Today the U.S Army announced that they have charged Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl with desertion and misbehavior before the enemy, the combination of the two charges could land Sgt. Bergdahl in Ft. Leavenworth for the remainder of his days. So as the collective media reports that Bergdahl will finally get what he deserves, I completely disagree.
Charging a traitor
People, we have been had! Sgt. Bergdahl is not only a deserter — there is a lot of info pointing to Bergdahl giving aid, comfort, and intelligence to the enemy. Not to mention converting to Islam and changing his name to Abdullah. He should have been charged with treason, as Taliban members from the Haqqani network said he taught them ambushing and bomb-making skills.
The prisoner exchange that may have cost more lives
We freed five Taliban terrorists, at least three of whom have tried to plug back into their old terror networks, a government official familiar with the intelligence said, describing it as an attempt to “re-engage.”
“I’ve seen nothing that causes me to believe these folks are reformed or changed their ways or intend to re-integrate to society in ways to give me any confidence that they will not return in trying to do harm to America,” Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Kan., a member of the House intelligence committee, said earlier.
Article 85, Article 99 – is it enough?
The desertion charge against Bergdahl, which falls under Article 85 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, carries a maximum punishment of five years confinement, a dishonorable discharge, reduction to the rank of E-1, forfeiture of all pay and allowances.
The misbehavior before the enemy charge, which falls under Article 99 of the UCMJ, carries a maximum punishment of confinement for life as well as a dishonorable discharge, reduction in rank to E-1, and forfeiture of pay and allowances.
Does this sound like enough to punish a turncoat that taught our enemies our own tactics to be used on his own brothers in arms? Remember, after his desertion, many of the members from his own unit were killed while trying to locate him by the very enemy he had turned to.
A lack of honor
Susan Rice had the audacity to say that Bowe Bergdahl “served with honor and distinction”. Yes, this is the Susan Rice that claimed the Benghazi attack was because of a movie that shed the Prophet Mohammed in a bad light.
One more important aspect of this, the president bypassed congress again to free Bergdahl and release 5 high level terrorists. How many bad decisions are we going to sit through? When do we finally say we have had enough?
The latest news reports are that he is currently in negotiations on a plea bargain that would have him spending no time in Federal Prison, how much do you want to bet that he takes this deal and is on the 1st flight back to Afghanistan to fight side by side with his true brothers in arms?
