Block Parties gone awry – Shootings in Detroit and Philadelphia
Ten people were shot at two separate block parties – on in Detroit and one in Philadelphia. Police in two separate cities are investigating shootings in which numerous people were shot on Saturday evening.
Two men one with a shotgun opened fire at around 10 pm on Ogden Street during a block party.
Conflicting reports listed 7 people and 10 people as shot in Philly. But 3 children, one of which was just over a year old, were hit with birdshot from the shotgun. The other victims ranged in age from 22 to 59. All victims are listed in stable condition.
“It looks like they just randomly fired down the street and hit anyone in their way.” Philadelphia Police Lt. John Walker
Witnesses say the block party had been peaceful until the men arrived and opened fire. They took out a handgun after climbing into a car and fired more shots as they sped away. The suspects are still at large. Police said that the incident may be due to a feud between two groups, but had no further information.
Police are asking for anyone with information to contact the Philadelphia Police Department.
A block party at a basketball court on the city’s west side went seriously awry as ten people were shot. One of them died. Police have not yet released the name of the deceased person.
Numerous children were present at the event, but none of them were injured. Three of the victims were women. One 46 year old man is in critical condition, and two men, 21 and 26, are listed in serious condition. The others have non-life-threatening injuries.
“I think one individual was the target, the others just happened to be at this party.” Assistant Chief Steve Dolunt
Party-goers have been uncooperative with police on revealing information about the shootings. Officials do not yet know the motive for the incident.
