Baimadajie Angwang, NYPD Officer, Army Reservist Arrested For Acting as Agent for China
Baimadajie Angwang, 33, a naturalized citizen from Tibet, NYPD officer and Staff Sergeant in the US Army Reserve, was arrested on Monday for being an agent for the Chinese government. He was allegedly reporting to two officials at the Chinese embassy on the activities of Tibetans in New York. The DOJ stated that he violated his oath of office as an NYPD officer, a US citizen, and a US Army reservist. He held a “secret” security clearance.
“Baimadajie Angwang violated every oath he took in this country. One to the United States, another to the U.S. Army, and a third to this Police Department.” NY Police Commissioner Dermot Shea to the NY Daily News
Angwang is charged with acting as an illegal agent of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), wire fraud, making false statements, and obstructing an official proceeding. And he’s reportedly been doing it since 2014. He worked at the 111th Precinct in New York City.
The DOJ reported,
The defendant allegedly violated his sworn oath to serve the New York City community and defend the Constitution against all enemies by reporting to PRC government officials about the activities of Chinese citizens in the New York area and developing intelligence sources within the Tibetan community in the United States,” stated Acting United States Attorney DuCharme. “This Office, together with our law enforcement partners, remains vigilant in rooting out any attempts at foreign influence though criminal activity taken on behalf of a foreign power in whatever form they may take.”
“State and local officials should be aware that they are not immune to the threat of Chinese espionage,” said Assistant Attorney General for National Security John C. Demers. “According to the allegations, the Chinese government recruited and directed a U.S. citizen and member of our nation’s largest law enforcement department to further its intelligence gathering and repression of Chinese abroad. Our police departments provide for our public safety and are often the first line of defense against the national security threats our country faces. We will continue to work with our state and local partners to protect our nation’s great police departments.”
“The defendant allegedly violated the trust of his community and the New York City Police Department on behalf of a foreign power, the People’s Republic of China. This type of conduct simply cannot be tolerated,” stated FBI Assistant Director Kohler. “This case serves as yet another reminder that China represents the biggest counterintelligence threat to the United States and that the FBI and our partners will be aggressive in investigating and stopping such activities within our nation.”

This man essentially went through the Chinese-Tibetan community gathering intelligence so he could tell the communist Chinese about their activities. But he also is accused of gathering information on potential threats to China as well as the inner workings of the NYPD (Newsday). Who needs Tik-Tok when you have this kind of activity?
“Tibetans have long known about THE Chinese government trying to infiltrate our communities and with this incident it’s proof that they not only spy on the Tibetan community but directly hinder and cause problems and try to sabotage our political work, our freedom work, even in the free United States.” Dorjee Tseten, Queens-based Tibetan activist and executive director of Students for a Free Tibet.
Angwang came to the United States initially on a “cultural exchange” visa. He overstayed that visa and got a second one. After overstaying the second one, he sought asylum by saying that he was tortured in China based on his Tibetan ethnicity. (CNBC ) It appears he may have lied all the way around. Both of his parents are members of the CCP- Chinese Communist Party.
He reportedly served two tours in Afghanistan and one in Iraq (Breitbart). He appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Roanne L. Mann on Monday afternoon, and was ordered held without bail.
Communist China has its tendrils through many areas in the U.S.. They are a serious National Security threat. They have infiltrated the US from technology to universities, to the military and police agencies.
