AP Reporter Inside Portland Protests: Eye-Opening Experience

 In Domestic, Politics

AP Reporter Mike Balsamo was embedded inside the US Marshals who deployed to the Federal Courthouse in Portland. He called his experience “eye-opening.”  Another AP reporter was outside with the rioters. Their purpose was to show both sides of the story. Other reporters from outlets such as the Epoch Times also covered the violence that shows no sign of abating.

“It’s scary. You open those doors out, when the crowd is shaking the fence, and … on the other side of that fence are people that want to kill you because of the job we chose to do and what we represent…I can’t walk outside without being in fear for my life. I am worried for my life, every time I walk outside of the building.”  a Deputy U.S. Marshal

“Something that often seems lost in this is that a lot of the federal law enforcement officers working out in Portland also live in the city & they recognize there are different groups — peaceful protesters by day & into the evening & more violent folks later into the night.” Mike Balsamo

“I watched as injured officers were hauled inside. In one case, the commercial firework came over so fast the officer didn’t have time to respond. It burned through his sleeves & he had bloody gashes on both forearms. Another had a concussion from being hit in the head w/ a mortar.” Mike Balsamo

One delusional protester told the AP reporter outside the fence that, “We are not here being violent or being destructive. We have a positive message — there is nothing to quell here. The people of Portland are saying, ‘We don’t want this presence here and we don’t think we need them at all.'” Monica Arce

“We.have.a.positive.message.” Positive? The hate spewed at police/law enforcement of any kind comes both day and night. It’s not positive in any way shape or form. In the daytime one group are protesters, chanting and yelling at police. They are called the “peaceful ones.” They claim to not be a “threat” to law enforcement because they only have “sticks and stones” and that the federal response is over the top.

At night there are dangerous anarchists whose intent is to destroy everything and kill police. It’s written all over their graffiti, it comes in the form of lasers meant to destroy eyesight, large fireworks that are shot at them designed to inflict damage. It would not stop with the withdrawal of Federal law enforcement because the agenda of the anarchists has nothing whatsoever to do with “criminal justice reform.”

The Epoch Times reported,

“Protesters appear to coordinate on many fronts, one being the illegal blocking of roads in the vicinity with bikes and cars. Multiple vans with medical supplies and so-called medics are also on standby (usually located at the back of the protest), while other vans patrol the area providing free food and water.

“Whatever message they were going for is now lost to the violence that’s taking place every night,” said Fabian Gordon, a Portland business owner who witnessed the events unfolding firsthand at the protest on July 24.

“We are well past the point of making sense,” he told The Epoch Times. “In my opinion, my generation privately is kind of turning against it—not publicly they won’t say it—but I will because I’m angry about it. I’m angry about the destruction, the orgy of violence.”

Gordon said he was unhappy about the impact the unrest would have on the “economic future of this area.”

“I’m very concerned about what happens in a few months to my city when all this dies out—what’s left?” he said. “[It’s] obviously terrifying, and that’s the right word to use for it.”

During the day, protests are largely peaceful. But at night, it’s a different story, and the violence doesn’t appear to show any signs of abating. In recent weeks, Portland Police have reported stabbings and shootings that took place at or near the federal courthouse.

Did the AP reporter have a change of heart after watching all the violence and seeing agents injured by objects?  Within his own words we can’t tell for sure. But it has to make a strong impression on all who have been covering the violence. For now, it appears that there is no end in sight for the city of Portland. Maybe if the people stop electing foolish liberals who placate the violence instead of stopping it…
