Stabbing attack

The little girl was playing on the swings in the playground, when she was approached by a black male wearing gym shorts. The man walked onto the playground, stabbed her, and fled on foot.

In the initial 911 call, there was some confusion as to whether the school secretary  was reporting a teacher or a student stabbed. The reporting party finally made it clear.

Dayton police have been searching intensely door to door and with a K-9 since the incident.

Extra officers were deployed, and additional security was implemented after the stabbing.

Suspect

Police gave the following description of the suspect:

  • Black male with a light complexion
  • 5’8″-5’10”, medium build
  • 18-20 years old
  • Short hair
  • Blue or beige gym shorts
  • Tan or green hooded sweatshirt
  • Orange undershirt

The school went into lockdown immediately upon learning of the incident. Police said that at least one teacher was on the playground at the time of the stabbing. They declined to identify the child who was stabbed.

“We don’t know if at this point the child was targeted for some reason. So, we still have a lot of work to do. So, we’re working in conjunction with Dayton Public Schools in an attempt to find out exactly what occurred today.” Dayton Police Lt. Eric Henderson

Later, police teams combed the playground with a K-9 again, looking for evidence and hoping for a scent trail.

“She was able to move her head and she was conscious. I just hope the little girl is OKIt’s sickening. It’s heartbreaking and I don’t understand why someone would come and do that to a second grader.” Charmaine Blunt, teacher at the school

Good question – who would do this?
